Tour #5 RIDE BIKE AND DISCOVER THE MEZCAL CULTURE

This tour we will cycle through the countryside as we learn about Oaxaca’s artisanal mezcal culture.

My driver and I will pick you up at your accommodation in Oaxaca city to drive to our first stop of the day, Santiago Matatlan.  This small village is known as “The World Capital of Mezcal”.  We’ll enjoy a light breakfast, pick up our bikes, and prepare for our ride. 

Our cycling route is a dirt road, through a beautiful landscape with fields of corn and agave. The 25 kilometer ride is mostly flat, with small ups and downs. Next we’ll arrive in my home village,  San Dionisio Ocotopec.  My mother will greet us with a delicious, traditional lunch.  After a rest, we can visit the lovely town center to get a feel for daily life in this small Zapotec town. 

Our tour ends with an (optional) stop at a mezcal distillery. We’ll  experience the artisanal process of producing this pre-Hispanic drink as well as a mezcal tasting. 

As my driver and I deliver you back to your Oaxaca city accommodation, you can relax and enjoy the views of the central valleys of Oaxaca.
