In recent years, mezcal has become very popular, and the state of Oaxaca is the center of production of this ancestral beverage of mexico. The town of San Dionisio, Ocotepec has some of the best mezcal in Oaxaca. Explore and discover each part of the process of this artisan drink made by Zapotec workers of this village.
Unlike your typical mezcal tasting, my tour will give you a deep understanding of mezcal’s cultural and traditional importance in Oaxaca. We’ll learn about the cultivation of agave as we spend time in the fields. We’ll also visit two distilleries to experience two different processes of mezcal production. Of course we’ll be tasting many varieties of mezcal and have a chance to purchase unique mezcal products. (cash only, please)

ITINERARY
My driver and I will pick you up at a convenient spot for you in Oaxaca City at 08:00 am . We’ll enjoy the scenic 50 minutes drive through the central valleys to arrive at my neighboring village, Santiago Matatlan, considered the mezcal capital of the world.
In this town Santiago Matatlan We’ll start the day with a delicious traditional breakfast of the region.
After our breakfast, we’ll head to my village, San Dionisio Ocotepec to visit the fields where most of the agave for the region is grown.
Next we visit a distillery that uses the ancestral method of producing mezcal. We’ll learn about the unique characteristics of this technique and taste samples.
My mother will prepare a delicious Zapotec meal of this region with fresh, wholesome food, including tortilla that she makes on the spot in our kitchen
Our final stop is an artisanal distillery. We’ll learn the differences between ancestral and artisanal mezcal. We can relax as we taste and shop. Our driver will meet us here for our return trip to Oaxaca City.
After our full day, you can relax and enjoy the scenery as we deliver you back to Oaxaca City.
